Meeting Between the Leadership of the Afghanistan Chamber of Agricultural and Livestock Products and the United Nations Representative
A meeting between the leadership of the Afghanistan Chamber of Agricultural and Livestock Products and Danae Bougas, Representative of the United Nations, was held. The meeting focused on the current situation of the agriculture and livestock sectors, investment opportunities, export development, and the role of international cooperation in Afghanistan’s economic growth.
At the beginning of the meeting, Haji Khan Mohammad Forotan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Afghanistan Chamber of Agricultural and Livestock Products, welcomed the United Nations representative and emphasized the importance of the agriculture and livestock sectors. He stated that Afghanistan is an agricultural and livestock-based country, with more than 75 percent of its population directly or indirectly engaged in these sectors.
Referring to the negative impacts of several decades of war on the country’s infrastructure, economy, and agricultural sector, he identified the lack of modern facilities, food security challenges, and other existing problems as major obstacles to the development of these sectors. He added that Afghanistan needs greater cooperation and support to promote economic development and achieve self-sufficiency.
The Chairman of the Chamber’s Board of Directors described the First Afghanistan International Agriculture and Livestock Exhibition as a valuable opportunity to showcase domestic capacities and products, attract investment, and expand trade relations. He stated that B2B meetings with representatives of the private sectors of India, Iran, and Türkiye had been held on the sidelines of the exhibition, creating a good platform for establishing business partnerships.
Speaking at the meeting, Danae Bougas, Representative of the United Nations, welcomed the organization of the exhibition and the Chamber’s efforts to develop the private and agricultural sectors. She stated that the agriculture sector is of particular importance to the people of Afghanistan and that the United Nations is seeking to cooperate with the private sector and economic stakeholders, identify existing challenges, and discuss future programs and solutions.
She also visited the exhibition and emphasized the importance of holding B2B meetings and creating opportunities for economic stakeholders to establish connections with international organizations.
In another part of the meeting, the Chairman of the Chamber’s Board of Directors provided information about existing opportunities in the export of dried fruits, fresh fruits, cumin, and saffron, stating that significant opportunities exist for signing major commercial contracts in the dried-fruit sector. The challenges related to transit and obstacles affecting the export of agricultural products were also discussed.
At the end of the meeting, both sides emphasized the continuation of cooperation, strengthening relations between the private sector and international organizations, and joint efforts to address existing challenges and create opportunities for the growth and development of Afghanistan’s agriculture and livestock sectors.

At the conclusion, the Chamber’s leadership, together with the United Nations representative, visited the exhibition booths and viewed various domestic and organic products.

At the end of the ceremony, Dr. Wasim Safi, Chairman of the Executive Board of the Afghanistan Chamber of Agricultural and Livestock Products, and members of the Chamber were presented with certificates of appreciation in recognition of their efforts and services toward the growth and development of Afghanistan’s agriculture and livestock sectors.
